Denna lilla gula l\u00e5da suger upp koldioxidmolekyler (Mars atmosf\u00e4r \u00e4r 96 % CO2) och delar upp dem och producerar syre och, p\u00e5 gott och ont, kolmonoxid.<\/p>\n<p>MOXIE \u00e4r t\u00e4nkt att trycka ut 10 gram syre i timmen, men enheten gjorde bara totalt 5 gram under sin f\u00f6rsta 2-timmars utandning. Det \u00e4r tillr\u00e4ckligt med syre f\u00f6r att h\u00e5lla n\u00e5gon vid liv i cirka 10 minuter. En st\u00f6rre version av MOXIE-enheten skulle i teorin producera syre i en hastighet som \u00e4r mer l\u00e4mplig f\u00f6r v\u00e5ra behov, eller till och med producera de 27,5 ton syre som kr\u00e4vs f\u00f6r att driva raketer som l\u00e4mnar Mars f\u00f6r att \u00e5terv\u00e4nda till jorden.<\/p>\n<p>NASA s\u00e4ger att MOXIE v\u00e4rmer upp till 1 470 grader Fahrenheit (800 Celsius) n\u00e4r den anv\u00e4nds. Det blir s\u00e5 varmt att NASA var tvungen att fodra den med aerogel f\u00f6r att skydda Perseverance-rovern. Forskare kan hitta en syreproduktionsmetod som anv\u00e4nder mindre energi eller producerar mindre v\u00e4rme i framtiden, men f\u00f6r tillf\u00e4llet \u00e4r MOXIE det b\u00e4sta vi har.<\/p>\n<p>Detta nya uppdrag bevisar att vi kan skapa en milj\u00f6 f\u00f6r m\u00e4nniskor p\u00e5 Mars, \u00e4ven om koloniseringen fortfarande \u00e4r v\u00e4ldigt l\u00e5ngt borta.
